The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute presents an in-depth look at the Civil Rights Movement through time, from before the movement's inception through the racial struggles of today. Exhibits include numerous displays depicting segregation in public transportation, churches and schools, a mini-theater showcasing the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the actual door from the jail cell where Dr. Martin Luther King wrote his historic "Letter from Birmingham Jail." Located in the historic Civil Rights District, the institute is surrounded by attractions like the 16th Street Baptist Church, the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame and Kelly Ingram Park.
