Housed in a renovated department store, McWane Science Center offers a creative examination of the world around us, through 150,000 square feet of educational science exhibits, including a bed of nails for reclining, and a laser harp visitors have the chance to play. Home to a 42,000-square-foot IMAX theater, the museum also features the Challenger Learning Center space mission simulator, allowing kids to imagine what it's like in outer space, and the World of Water Aquarium. The science center is located downtown, less than a mile southeast of the Birmingham Museum of Art.
