The park’s centerpiece is a statue of Vulcan, the mythical god of metalworking, which is the largest iron figure ever cast; the 56-foot tall statue was Birmingham’s entry in the 1904 World’s Fair, where it won first place. The park is just four miles south of downtown, near the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
