The food wasn't good and I have never had Japanese like this. It was a poor imitation of the real thing.

I was not impressed. The table, chairs and everything we touched was very greasy.

While I don't claim to be an expert on Japanese steakhouses, I have eaten at quite a few in many states. My girlfriend and I went several Thursday nights ago to Kobe. Upon entering the restaurant, you can see that they are doing renovations - no problem with that. The hostess was friendly, and they sat us near immediately. Maybe it was the fact that it was 8:30 that had put the wait staff in a bad mood. We were sat at table that had already been seated. The waiter came over and very abruptly asked for our drinks. I asked him then if they offered any other salad dressing than their "house" ginger - NO. Also, I asked for a Coke and received a Pepsi. I'm not saying that Coke vs Pepsi really matters, but a simple, "we have Pepsi" would have been nice. The table, ie, the patrons, were boring and self-absorbed. Again, maybe it was the night, but the entire table ignored the chef for the entire meal. He actually seemed to appreciate that we said "thank you" when we received our food. Now, the food. It was the first time that she and I had ever eaten there. The salad comes with only the "house" ginger dressing. The Japanese soup was poor. It looks as if it has tofu pieces floating in it and has very few vegetables. The vegetables were good -made of onions, zucchini, carrots. They serve fried rice with vegetables and egg in it. They also serve lo mein noodles, as well. There is appetizer shrimp, but it is the same shrimp as the dinner shrimp. To that, I mean, I ordered filet and shrimp, and I received my dinner shrimp from the same shrimp, at the same time, as everyone else received their appetizer shrimp. The steak was good. The teriyaki chicken was dry and the teriyaki sauce was very watery. One final note on the food, much smaller portions than I have received at other restaurants. It was not worth the money you pay for Japanese food, and you don't even need a box. Overall, I was unimpressed, and given the service and less than fantastic food, we will not return.
